| December 2000 - January 2001
* The end of an era, with December 3rd marking the last City Celebration worship service.
* Uncertainty for Youth Council, as restructuring of the WA Synod results in the level of state support for youth ministry coming under scrutiny. Youth Council has to increase its responsibilities in order to compensate for the reduction of key youth positions in the Synod office. A silver lining emerges – Council of Synod offers two places to appointees of the Youth Council. This is a very important step for the youth of WA, having direct input into the important decision making processes of the Church.
* A total of 39 people head off on the NCYC WA Tour Group to sunny Queensland for NCYC 2001 in Brisbane, as well as 5-10 people who attended NCYC only. It’s a WAlien invasion!
February 2001
* Theo’s Café is held at Trinity Church, marking a slow start to the year in terms of event attendance. NCYC delegates share their experiences. March 2001
* Movie Night at ACE Cinemas Subiaco, with 59 people attending a screening of ‘Miss Congeniality’. * 16 people attend the Easter Camp Leader Training Day, developing their leadership skills and completing an accreditation course as event leaders. April 2001
* Megan Lehmann is employed as the Youth Council Support Worker in a part-time position, proving an important resource to all councillors.
* 3 Easter camps are held – easter@eaton, Cherry Tree Pool, and Baker’s Hill. Busselton Beach 18+ camp does not run due to insufficient numbers. It’s a time of friendship, fun and spiritual enrichment (plus some chocolate thrown in). May 2001
* Julian Hamilton, keynote speaker at NCYC and Irish legend, flies in to Perth for Theo’s Café. Over 70 people attend this blockbuster event. June 2001
* Youth Talk (2/2001) dazzles congregations state-wide. Well, we’d like to think so, but feedback is slow – let us know what your opinions of Youth Talk are.
July 2001
* Youth Synod is held as a camp at Scotch College. Over 40 campers formulate and pass a staggering 28 proposals. A message is sent out: the youth scene is building momentum, “The Dream” is alive… we’re excited!! August 2001
* Youth Council Retreat - the new-look Youth Council spend the weekend (in a convent) mapping out future directions and getting to know each other as a team. 5 task groups are formed to maximise efficiency and effectiveness of resources: communications and marketing; wider church relations; ecumenical, community and social justice; events; and processes. Enthusiastic and energetic, Councillors have enough time to rediscover their love of playgrounds.
* Theo’s Café is held again at Wesley Auditorium. A crowd of approximately 40 people experience a multimedia presentation and small group discussions on pressure.
September 2001
* The 1st annual Young Adult Retreat is held, aimed at people aged 18+. The 11 people who attend find it extremely revitalising and relaxing.
* The calendar event of the year, Spring Ball. Over 160 people dance the night away at the Nedlands Yacht Club. * Youth @ Synod, a program for high school aged people, is run for the first time. Everyone learns that marshmallows + important people in the Synod = chubby bunnies.
* Keeping on the Synod theme, 3 Youth Councillors are elected as members of Council of Synod, as well as Rick Morrell. Add this to the 2 existing positions, and the youth voice is making sure it is heard.
October 2001
Youth Council releases the Youth Census to all congregations in WA. Endorsed by Synod 2000, it is imperative that all recipients make the effort to complete this survey, which will greatly aid in future planning for youth ministry.
* Out of the Box, an alternative worship service, is held at Wesley Auditorium. * Life’s A Beach Camp is held up in Guilderton for those in years 8-10.
